Aghion sought to create a utilitarian yet feminine alternative to the world of haute couture. Building on Natacha Ramsay-Levi (Chloé’s previous creative director) who campaigned for a forwardly feminine ethos, Chemena Kamli continues to do so since her debut collection. This is Chemena Kamali’s fourth turn at Chloé, following an internship and design assistant role under Pheobe Philo, and later working as a design director under Claire Waight Keller. But it was the Karl Lagerfeld years, the 1960s to 1980s, from which Kamali sought inspiration.
